Happy 4th of July everyone! New paintings to post tomorrow.
2008 4th of July

Back from the great white north

Or rather, the great light north. 24 hour sunlight! It was fantastic. Mark is from Alaska and we love to visit his family whenever we can, unfortunately due to the distance we don’t get to go as much as we’d like. However this last week was amazing and we were glad to spend time with them.

Alaska from the air

Airport ride
We were picked up from the airport in style!

Mark and Thomas
Island fun, where Mark grew up

Island Island sand
Ack, so pretty (you really should click these to view them larger)

Boat ride
Boat trip on the Chena River in Fairbanks, with Mark’s sister and family pup, Dalli (named after the Dall Sheep, Mark’s dad is a wildlife biologist)

Daredevil Wayne
And quite a daredevil to boot!

Moose
I *finally* saw a moose on this trip, in fact I saw 5!

Riding in Alaska
Horseback riding at Chena Hot Springs. Mark’s horse, Butch, was adorable

Muskox babies!
We toured the Musk Ox farm too, officially called the Large Animal Research Station (L.A.R.S.)

Skulls
Musk Oxen skulls

Bar & martini glass made of ice!
Ice knights + Mark
Ice Museum Ice horse
We also visited the Ice Musuem, a motel made of ice! You can rent a chamber there to the tune of $600 per night, though they said only 3 people have made it the whole night without fleeing to warmer sleeping quarters. I can’t blame them, it was 20 degrees and the 45 minute tour seemed pretty long. At the end we got to sit at the ice bar and drink appletinis out of glasses made of ice! The stools were covered in caribou hide to keep you from sticking, it was fantastic.

Brr. Makes me cold just looking at those pictures. So fun though, the whole trip.

On a business note, I have a whole box of paintings about six months old that have never been on the site. They’ve made their way up from a show in Seattle all the way here, so as soon as I pick them up they’ll be on the site.

In the mean time, you can find my affordable art at these places:

*also, you can buy online at all of these sites except for the Anne Bonny*
