Moonlight Beach

So I’ve been painting. And painting. And painting. But not paintings, we’ve been painting the place we moved into a month ago. It was white through and through, so we gave ourselves a little time to live in it before deciding on a color. We chose a warm gray-brown by Seaside Retreats called Moonlight Beach. The color is very much like wet sand, and we painted the living room, kitchen, and hall since they are all connected. Boy howdy that was a project.  Add textured walls and painting over semi gloss and you’ve got a whale of a good time. Aside from a few touch ups we are finally done! We’re excited to have the paint down because that means we get to start shopping for some art, since we’re tired of everything we had at the old place.

By the way, I think today is the last day (or close to it) to purchase one of my Saint paintings at Bluebottle Art in Seattle. This one is my absolute favorite of the series and no one has purchased it yet:

"Saint Dorothy" acrylic painting
“Saint Dorothy” Patron Saint of brides and florists

I also have paintings up at the Paperdoll in Bellingham until June 7 (check out that store anyway, good stuff).

And I have a box of four paintings back from an art show in Florida to add to the site. I haven’t even opened it yet but am hoping to photograph them this weekend.

P.S.
I did manage to add this Encouraging Word painting to the site prior to the wall painting extravaganza:

"Quiet" acrylic/silk screen on canvas

Pricing gun

Hi there,

Look for a website update tomorrow with new paintings! I’m also working on a pretty interesting art show idea that I’m hoping will get people talking, more on that later.

In the mean time, don’t forget to check out the work I have up at these places:

Bluebottle Art: My portraits of female saints are up until the end of May. Bonus, you can buy these online!

Some Space Gallery: I have two Encouraging Word paintings up here in the Printermakers Showcase until the end of May. Both are priced under $150 if memory serves.

The Paperdoll: This fantastic shop is located in Fairhaven in Bellingham, WA. I have several Encouraging Word paintings there, along with some portraits.

I’ve been thinking a lot about art pricing lately. I’ve had people tell me I sell my original works for too little. My prices typically range from $75 to $300ish for most pieces, and the art at the three shows above is no exception. I appreciate people’s concern and I understand their points about devaluing one’s work with inexpensive prices, but I don’t feel like that’s what I’m doing. I’m a young painter. I’m also a young art collector, and I’m sympathetic to others who love art and want to start their own collections. Sometimes it’s tough for people to find funds to buy art, even knowing it can be an investment. This is currently leading me to price my stuff what I consider to be affordable to the majority of burgeoning collectors. It doesn’t mean I take any less care or expend any less energy in creating my pieces, believe me, I work hard on these. It does mean you can buy a painting and still have some money left over for toilet paper though. Who’s looking out for who now?
